Government has taken many pragmatic initiatives to ensure efficiency, transparency and accountability in government activities. The government introduced multifarious reforms initiatives. Annual Performance Agreement has been introduced in 2014/15 and now implemented from the Ministry to Upazila level. Citizen’s Charter has also been implemented in all government offices to ensure timely delivery of services within the committed timeframe. The government formulated the National Integrity Strategy in 2012 to ensure good governance and to develop a culture of integrity in both public and private organizations. An online grievance redress system has been developed to address the issue of public grievances on the quality and availability of public services. Side by side a system of public hearing (once in a week) has been introduced in all Deputy Commissioner’s office. The citizens can inform their problems and grievances to the DCs directly through this arrangement. All of these achievements were possible due to the strong commitment and timely policy interventions of the government. But in some cases, the intended results were not achieved due to the absence of an integrated approach and coordination gap. At the same time the advancement of technology, changed economic status of the country, rising expectation of the citizens all together created the demand of a new coordinated approach to address these issues. |
